Weekly Curbside Black Bin Collection (Trash)

    Single-Family Residents

What goes in the black bin?

Your black bin is for everyday household trash and non-recyclable materials that cannot be reused, donated, or composted. To help keep our City of Los Angeles neighborhoods clean and healthy, please place the following items directly in your black bin:

  • Non-recyclable plastics: Styrofoam, plastic bags, film plastic, and plastic numbers 3, 4, 6, and 7.
  • Everyday household trash: Crockery, rubber hoses, disposable diapers, and worn-out cloth or fabric unsuitable for donation.
  • Bagged pet waste: Animal waste and pet litter (please place in tightly tied, watertight bags).
  • Treated wood: Small treated wood and wood products.

What can't go in the black bin?

Placing the wrong items in your black bin can cause safety hazards for our collection crews or keep recyclable materials out of productive reuse. Please keep these items out of your trash:

  • Recyclables: Clean paper, cardboard, glass, metals, and plastics 1, 2, and 5 belong in your Blue Bin.
  • Organic waste: Food scraps, food-soiled paper, and yard trimmings belong in your Green Bin.
  • Household Hazardous Waste (HHW): Batteries, paint, light bulbs, electronics, and chemicals must be taken to a S.A.F.E. (Solvents, Automotives, Flammables, Electronics) Center.
  • Bulky items: Oversized items like furniture, mattresses, and tires do not fit in your bin. Schedule a free curbside bulky item pickup instead.

Fire-damaged items

Items and materials affected by fire can be safely placed in your black bin as long as they do not contain hazardous waste. To ensure safety during handling, please make sure all fire-damaged items are double-bagged before placing them in your bin.
