Earth Day LA 2024 Recap

Each year, LASAN celebrates Earth Day with a signature citywide event, open to all... free! We look forward to seeing you in April 2027.

Annual Earth Day LA celebration

What to Expect at Earth Day LA:

  • City Vehicles to Explore: Kids (and kids at heart) can climb into our collection trucks, honk the horns, and see what it’s like to be a LASAN driver! Other City departments will also be there with cool vehicles to explore.
  • Free Food & Drinks: Enjoy a free burger (meat or veggie) and fries from The Habit, with cold drinks provided by Reyes Coca-Cola. (Available from 10 AM to 2 PM, while supplies last!)
  • Interactive Exhibitors: Learn about our sustainability programs with fun giveaways! Find out how to use recycled water, what goes in your blue recycling bin, where to get free mulch, and how to get a free street tree.
  • Composting Demonstrations: Visit the Learning Lab on the second floor of the Environmental Learning Center from 11 AM to 12 PM for a free home composting workshop. Learn how to turn kitchen scraps into healthy soil!

Keep an eye on our Events Calendar for the 2027 date and location. We can't wait to see you!

Annual Open House events at our Collection Yards

Since 2003, our District Yards have opened their doors to the public for a series of free Saturday events. Come take a facility tour, watch equipment demonstrations, play recycling games, and enjoy free refreshments!

Lopez Canyon Environmental & Education Center gives away small vegetable plants, mulch, and compost, while supplies last. We also partner with City Plants to offer free shade trees for adoption (limit one per property address; please bring a valid ID or Department of Water and Power (DWP) bill). Our trucks are on display and offer free rides. A DJ keeps the energy levels up while you visit our 40+ educational booths.

Engineer Day

Engineer Day is an opportunity for engineering students to learn more about LASAN, gain an understanding of our hiring process and core programs, and hear from some of our recent hires. The interactive sessions are followed by a tour, either in person or virtual.  Admission is free and open to students studying chemical, civil, environmental, or mechanical engineering at colleges and universities across the US.
