Extra Capacity Charges
Base Service
Ratepayers who receive their curbside Solid Resources services directly from LASAN have a base level of service for trash, recycling, and organics. This base service includes one 60-gallon black trash container, one 90-gallon blue recycling container, and one 90-gallon green yard waste/organics container.
Customers who desire extra service capacity have the option of requesting that additional service, for which they incur an Extra Capacity Charge. Extra capacity fees are charged in incremental units based on the most common-sized containers (60-gallon refuse container, 90-gallon organics container, 90-gallon recycling container, and 60-gallon manure container).
How Do I Know What Size My Bins Are?
To find the capacity of your bins, you can check by looking at the serial number printed on each bin. The second digit will be a number which reflects the capacity of that bin.
Second digit “3” = 30-gallon bin
Second digit “6” = 60-gallon bin
Second digit “9” = 90-gallon bin
What is the Charge for Larger Bins?
The Extra Capacity Charge (ECC) fees for any capacity above the base service level can be found in the table below:

Another Option - Extra Capacity Tags
Did you know... if the lid of your bin does not close, it is too full and may not be collected. LA Sanitation and Environment offers extra capacity tags to residents for $2.00 each, sold in packs of 5. A maximum of 25 extra capacity tags may be sold to each household per calendar year.
Financial Assistance
Residents who are qualified members of the Low-Income Customer Assistant Program for their Solid Resources Fee can also receive a 50% discount for extra capacity refuse charges. Extra Capacity charges for Organics, Recycling, and Manure containers are NOT eligible for discounts.
- Existing customers who are enrolled in the Lifeline or Low-Income Customer Assistance Program (EZ-SAVE Program) do NOT need to re-apply; these rate discounts will be automatically applied to the new rates
- Lifeline customers will receive a discount on their SRF fee, but for the purposes of that fee only they will be considered “Low-Income” customers, as SRF will no longer have a Lifeline program
- New customers who wish to apply for financial assistance should contact LA DWP to find out which program is the best fit for their needs, and maximizes discounts
- Customers may only be enrolled in one plan or the other - the Lifeline Program OR the Low-Income Customer Assistance Program (EZ-SAVE Program)
