Tire Recycling
Tire Disposal Rules
Under the California Tire Recycling Act, waste tires must be disposed of properly to protect our local environment and prevent fire hazards. You cannot place used tires in your black trash bin, blue recycling bin, or green organics bin. LA Sanitation & Environment (LASAN) provides free, environmentally friendly tire recycling options for City of Los Angeles residents.
Year-Round Residential Drop-Offs
City of Los Angeles residents can drop off up to four (4) tires per calendar year at any LASAN Solid Resources Collection District Yard at no charge. Please bring a valid state-issued photo ID and a current utility bill to verify your LA City residency.
Please note: Tires from commercial tire shops or auto mechanics are strictly prohibited at residential drop-off locations.
Community Tire Amnesty Events
Throughout the year, LASAN hosts special Tire Amnesty Events in neighborhood locations across Los Angeles. These events allow residents to bring used passenger vehicle tires, truck tires, motorcycle tires, bicycle tires, rims, and inner tubes for free recycling. We also co-host combined collection events, such as neighborhood Tire and Mattress Collection Events, to help you clear out hard-to-recycle items in a single trip.
Illegal Dumping Cleanups
If you see illegally dumped tires in your neighborhood or alleyway, our team will remove them. LASAN collects and recycles waste tires across residential areas through dedicated livability initiatives, including the Clean Streets Los Angeles Program and the South LA Alley Clean-up Program. You can report dumped tires anytime by submitting a service request through MyLA311 or by calling our 24-hour Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489.
