Move-In & Move-Out Extra Pickup

    Single-Family Residents

What is the Move-In/Move-Out service?

If you are a City of Los Angeles resident who has recently moved, we offer special one-time collections for the extra trash that comes with a move. This service covers all those extra cardboard boxes, packing materials, and bags of trash that won't fit in your regular blue and black bins.

How do I schedule a pickup?

We collect these items on your regularly scheduled trash day, but you must let us know you need the extra help ahead of time.

  1. Call us early: Dial our 24-hour Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489.
  2. Give us a heads-up: You must call at least one business day before your regular collection day.
  3. Count your items: Please have a rough count of how many bags, boxes, or bundles you’ll have at the curb when you call.

How to prepare your moving boxes and bags.

To keep our neighborhoods tidy and our drivers safe, please follow these simple "30/2/3" rules:

  • Weight Limit: Every bag, box, or bundle must weigh 30 pounds or less.
  • Size Limit: Boxes and bundles should be no larger than 2 feet by 3 feet.
  • Flatten Everything: All cardboard boxes must be flattened and tied together in bundles.
  • Seal the Mess: Please place "packing peanuts" (Styrofoam) and shredded paper into sealed bags or boxes so they don't blow away.
  • Stay Dry: Keep your bags and boxes away from water or moisture. Damp cardboard can break apart and create a mess on your street.
  • Close it up: Make sure all full boxes are tied or taped closed.
