WHAT GOES IN EACH BIN?

LA Sanitation & Environment (LASAN) utilizes a four-bin curbside collection system that consists of distinct bins for various waste types. This includes a black bin for refuse, a blue bin for recyclables, a green bin for organic waste, and a brown bin for horse manure and stable bedding.

Click here to download a flyer stating what may go in each bin.

The allocation of bins to LASAN’s residential customers is based on the type of dwelling they live in. This is to ensure that each household has enough capacity for their waste while also promoting sustainability and proper waste management practices.

Residents residing in single-family dwellings or duplexes are given one 60-gallon black bin for refuse, one 90-gallon green bin for organic waste, and one 90-gallon blue bin for recyclables. Additionally, residents who keep horses on their properties receive a brown bin for collecting horse manure and stable bedding.

Residents residing in multi-family dwellings are allocated one 60-gallon black bin for refuse and one 90-gallon blue bin for recyclables, per unit. One 90-gallon green bin for organic waste is provided to be shared by all units on the premises. If the multi-family building is serviced by a recycLA Service Provider, the bins and their sizes are determined by the building owner or manager.

If you place items in the right bins, it can help reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills and make progress towards a more sustainable future. Non-recyclable items such as garden hoses, animal waste, treated wood, cloth/fabric that cannot be donated, and sealed containers of fats/oils/grease should be put in the black bin. Household hazardous waste and e-waste may be taken to S.A.F.E. Centers. If you have questions, need a new bin, or have bulky items, please call our Customer Care Center at 1-800-773-2489.
