Green Bin Deployment

California Senate Bill 1383 (SB 1383) requires all single-family residences and apartments/multi-family properties to participate in organics recycling services to reduce organic waste disposed of in landfills. To help meet those statewide mandates, the City of Los Angeles, Bureau of Sanitation (LASAN) has been deploying 90-gallon green organics containers for residents to use.

The City is complying with the mandates of SB 1383 by providing a 3-container system, a green container, a blue container, and a black container to each generator of waste. Residents must place food waste, food-soiled paper, and yard waste in the green containers. Green containers will be picked up weekly on the standard collection day. The collected material will then be transported to a facility that recovers organic waste, as required under SB 1383.

Final Notice – Action Required

Several attempts have been made since July 2025 to contact you regarding delivery of the required green organics container, including door to door and text campaigns. We have not received a response from you. This notice serves as the FINAL ATTEMPT to coordinate delivery of your container. You must respond no later than February 28, 2026. If no action is taken, no further delivery attempts or notices will be made and no green container will be delivered to you.

To let us know your container preference, please scan or click the QR code below and complete the form immediately to request a 30 or 60 or 90 gallon green organics container. You may also visit our website at lacitysan.org/greenbindeployment or call our 24-hour Customer Care Center at 800-773-2489 to make your request, or if you have any questions regarding this notice.

Please be aware that if you request a smaller size of the green container, you are still required by State law to separate food waste from the black trash container, and there will be no change to the same Solid Resources (Trash) fee you are charged. A 90-gallon green container remains immediately available to you upon request through LASAN.

Failure to respond to this final notice does not exempt residents from compliance with SB 1383, as participation in organics recycling is mandatory under State law and and the Solid Resources Fee remains the same.
