To improve sustainable practices in our neighborhoods for a more livable City, the City of Los Angeles LA Sanitation and LA Department of Water and Power offer classes every second Saturday of the month from 9:00am to 12:00pm on home composting and water conservation at the Lopez Canyon Educational Center. The Compost Workshops begin at 10:00am. We go over how to use your yard trimmings, food waste and shredded paper to make your own feed stock to produce backyard compost. To demonstrate water saving practices, our Education Center displays native and drought tolerant plants, a bio-swale, and a raised bed garden. Attendees will be educated on water conservation, drought tolerant and native plant landscaping, and the different water conservation programs that DWP offers. New compost bins are available for sale at the discounted price of $20 each, to residents of the City of Los Angeles, on the third Friday and second Saturday of each month from 9:00am to 12:00pm. All purchases are by check only. We also have our trademark TOPGRO Premium Soil Amendment and Mulch in 30lbs bags available. We also sell the compost bins on the third Friday of every month from 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM. The sales will be conducted at the scale house across from the Education Center.
