The Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWPF) will produce 19 MGD of purified water from the DCTWRP for groundwater recharge at Hansen Spreading Grounds in the San Fernando Valley. Groundwater in the San Fernando Valley is a major source of water supply for the City’s drinking water. The AWPF, which will treat effluent from the DCTWRP, represents the use of some of the most forward-looking treatment processes used today. The robust and resilient process train uses multiple treatment barriers and water quality monitoring will be conducted to ensure the purified water is safe and protective of public health. The project is currently under design by LASAN and is expected to be operational in 2026.
