Green Acres Farm

Instead of using synthetic chemical fertilizers, farmers at Green Acres apply Class A, Exceptional Quality (EQ) biosolids directly to the soil using standard farm equipment like manure spreaders, tractors, and plows. LASAN incorporates biosolids into the soil within 30 minutes of delivery. This process enriches the soil safely, meets strict federal and state environmental standards, and supports sustainable farming practices.

Green Acres Farm grows non-food chain crops that thrive on recycled nutrients. Current crops in production include:  

• Sudan grass  
• Milo  
• Alfalfa  
• Wheat  
• Corn  
• Oats  

Once harvested, these crops are sold as feed to local dairies. Harvested feed is also delivered directly to local Los Angeles community partners, including the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) Mounted Platoon Stables and the Los Angeles Zoo in Griffith Park.  

Green Acres Farm relies on sustainable irrigation methods to keep crops growing. The site has used recycled water supplied by the City of Bakersfield since 1989 under Regional Water Quality Control Board regulations. When recycled water supplies are low, the farm supplements irrigation using on-site groundwater wells and water purchased from the Kern Water District.

Farm operations are managed by R&G Fanucchi, with loading, transport, and application contracted through Responsible Biosolids Management, Inc. (RBM).
